This solar-powered machine transforms desert sand into glass sculptures

German designer Markus Kayser built his ‘Solar Sinter’ machine as a university project. He wanted to challenge how we approach the process of making things in a world dominated by shortages.  The machine he made is solar powered and uses concentrated sun beams to melt sand into glass.
